As part of the Talyllyn Railway’s Have-a-Go Gala, the popular Llechfan Garden Railway will be operating all weekend (from 10:30 a.m.) with specialist model railway traders also in attendance.

Live your childhood dream and get behind the controls of a coal fired steam locomotive on the Talyllyn Railway. You can also learn the skilled duties of firing a locomotive. A range of experiences run across the weekend. On Saturday evening there is a special evening train and meal.

Provisional events: Driving Experience Wharf – Brynglas, Firing Experience Full Line Experience, Diesel Driver for a Fiver, Footplate passes, Other Experiences – fancy having a go at something that’s not listed? Ask!

We will be operating 16mm scale model steam hauled narrow gauge trains on the Llechfan Garden Railway which is located in the grounds of the volunteer hostel at the Talyllyn Railway, Wharf Station, Tywyn.

On Saturday evening the Porters Platter café at Wharf Station will be operating a licensed bar with hot meals available and in conjunction with the gala weekend,  there will also be an evening train running on the Talyllyn Railway

The event coincides with the Talyllyn Railway Have A Go Gala which offers opportunities to drive a steam or diesel locomotive or take part in many of the other supporting activities on the Talyllyn Railway.

The event is being supported by several model traders. Confirmed to date are –

Garden Railway ~ Evening Train ~ Evening Licensed Bar ~ Miniature Train Rides ~ Garden Railway Trader Support

Please ask platform staff at Tywyn Wharf station for directions to the garden railway. Do not cross the running lines to get to the layout unless supervised by Talyllyn Railway staff.

Trains running in the garden on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July from 10.30am until the last Talyllyn train arrives back at Tywyn Wharf station. Held in conjunction with the Talyllyn Have-a-Go Gala where Talyllyn Railway visitors may also take the opportunity to have a go learning the ropes for firing or driving a steam hauled train, driving a diesel, guarding a train or being a Blockman (signalman) or Station Master.

On the Saturday there will also be an evening Bar at Wharf Station and an evening train ride. Further details are now available here.
